TWIN III SL
The TWIN III SL evolved from TWIN III which was already well known and therefore profits from its outstanding flight performance, the beneficial flight characteristics, the roomy cockpit and the sturdiness. The operating capabilities include performance flights (independent of tow-plane and winch) and flight training as well as the exploring of new gliding areas and unknown mountain ranges. As the first all-composite glider to receive FAA certification, it set new standards in its class.
The adjustable propeller is a unique feature, which in combination with an additional fuel tank in the left hand wing has extended the range of the SL to 500 km.
Further operations which are possible due to the adjustable propeller are:
- Flights in controlled areas
- Long distance flight training
- Ferry flights
- Flights with passengers
- Noise reduced flights from sensitive airports
The retraction of the engine is fully automatic, another unique feature in this class of aircraft. The SL is equipped with nose wheel steering. This gives directional control on the ground and provides the capability to execute tight turns. A dual control and operating system is essential for a training aircraft. This feature is certainly provided in the TWIN III SL. A high value was set on the comfort and safety: All levers, switches, instruments and circuit breakers are located within easy reach of the pilots. The glass fiber reinforced safety cockpit, the high quality electrical system and other features such as power plant safety hook, emergency battery, make the TWIN III SL the safest aircraft in its class.
